Our Disneyland Date: Adventures That Lie Ahead On The Train You Didn't Want To Take.

Updated: May 9, 2024

Our Disney Date started late....as usual but that also means that it was another wonderful day together and full of surprises we wouldn't have ever guessed happening.

I knew we weren't going to open the park. Thanks to our last Disneyland Day (with Hazards) we learned to never open the park again. It's packed and took over 2 1/2 hours to get inside. No thanks. So again I figured we would be there by 10...

Well a crazy busy schedule of Ryan got us to the park at noon.

Ryan had taken the carpool lane on the 5 and we weren't sure if we were going to be able to exit in time for Harbor so he took the left hand exit from the carpool at Disney Drive. Well that led us right past the anaheim Hotel and as I drove by I realized that they still had parking spaces in the lot and a guy standing out front to let you in....so I made a u-turn...yes it was a legal u-turn and made our way into the lot to park. Oh so much better! I was thrilled we got a spot there. It's such a beautiful and easy walk to the main entrance and there's no need for the long, daunting tram.

It was an absolutely beautiful day outside so the walk was enjoyable. We easily got through security as no one was in line! From there, our journey came to a brief hault. Ryan had to jump on an important call....so I made my way inside Disneyland to grab a locker. To my surprise, when I walked back out to Ryan in the senter court area between California Adventure and Disneyland....Ryan was ready to party.

The first thing we did was walk straight to get a sstrawberry dole whip! delcious! Although it was only 77/80...I was melting. All I could think is that summer isn't even here yet!

We grabbed our delicious treats and went on a walk with them. We found ourselves over by the bake potatoe place because Ryan knows I love them....but after standing in a line that wasn't moving and an online mobile order that said 30mins from now...we opted to move on. Just as we are stepping out of line then train in pulling up....let's ride the train I said - take it to Main Street and then head into California Adventure.. we rushed to make it. We didn't make it. hahaha. We patiently waited for the next train to come along....and just like in life...you never know what adventure lies ahead on the train you didn't want to take.

Let's start with Carthay Circle. I have been trying frequently to acquire a reservation on their patio. Not once did it pop up with a time. However, for some reason I got the inkly to try again as the train made its way around the tracks and first the very first time....it had one available time slotat 3:20pm...two hours from now. Perfect. We will take it. With no hestiation I confirmed our timeslot.

Then as we continue to make our way around the tracks I realized that both the engineer and the fireman were female. Two ladies running the train! Something I had never seen before and something I defintely wanted to document with a photo and share with Hazel and her love of trains. So I informed Ryan of my intentions at the Main Street stop that I was going to ask if I could snap a photo of the two. They agreed so I quickly went up to the engine where they were but found that they had misunderstood my request. I wanted a photo of the two of them and they thought I wanted a photo of me and the engine. One of the engineers obliged and let me snap a photo and then she offered to take one of ryan and I so I motioned him to come up too. AS we briefly chatted and began to walk away the other engineer said...don't forget we have tender rides. I quickly said that we have tried over the course of time but never scouped up spot. Plus I ws told they had stopped. She says they just got approval to bring them back last week!

Keep in mind that we are only here today because Ryan is going to China on business and will no longer be home to make our May 15th reservation....and today was the only day that would work.

She then says...well if you don't mind waiting another trip...we can get you on for a tender ride!

I'm pretty sure I could feel the earth jiggling as mine and Ryan's insides leapt for joy!

We climbed back onboard with the biggest smiles and took our second trip around the tracks.

As I sit here typing and recalling how we just couldn't believe how lucky we got....I remember this. What day is it. Just as those words came to me in 2006 as I drove my car home from San Francisco loaded up with everything I owned and my parent's following behind me with all the big things I owned...or barrowed from mom and dad.

Today is the day Grannie passed away. Just as she brought me home to Southern California to be with Ryan and my family....she made these wonderful moments possible.

Here's something else that I just realized is pretty amazing. The train itself. The c.k.holiday.

There are five train engines running at Disneyland. From speaking with the engineers as we went around.....the trains that run that day are random to say the least and only dictated by the service team. There is no rhyme or reason.....for the ck holiday being one of the three trains running today....nor the train that stopped to pick us up. We ran for one train but the ck holiday was the one we were meant to board. So why do I bring all this up.....because Ryan wanted to create an email address for himself that didn't have his name in it. He randoml y decides to use a Disney train...and of the five trains...he chose...yep, ckholiday.
